Open weave

The open weave is a plain weave with an open texture that is created on the two treadle handloom. The weaving yarns must be thickened with rice powder before weaving to gain extra volume. After the textile is woven, the rice powder gets removed by soaking the textile in water. The yarns regain the original thickness and gaps appear between the yarns that create the open weave. The open weave can be worn throughout the seasons. During the chilly spring evenings, the airy texture gives a comfortable warmness whilst the air between the gaps create extra warmth for the cold months. The red stripes at both ends of the scarf are dyed in vegetarian dyestuff.

Natural Indigo Dye

To get a deep dark blue colour, the weaving yarns are dipped about 10 to 20 times in a vat of indigo. The more the yarns are dipped in the natural indigo, the darker the blue colour will get. During the dyeing process, no chemicals are added. General wear, use and wash will fade the colour and each product will gain its unique appearance by time.
